The main function of the “Active Edges Filters” (AEF’s) is to reduce suspended solids (TSS) in the water to significantly improve water clarity.  The Active Edge Filter system activates and exponentially expands the biological treatment, and filtration capacity in the normal canal and lake edges. If not activated these edges provide minimal treatment and are bypassed by the channelized flow in the canals and water features. Because this system activates the established landscape design, and requires no additional land area it is a highly cost effective water quality improvement technology.  The system involves an engineered flow distribution system which acts as a filter to reduce Total Suspended Solids. At the same time the system oxidizes BOD and COD and nitrifies Ammonia.
