Diverse Biology

microorganism

The Biomatrix provides the foundation and the substrate to support a diversity of life forms from many different phylogenetic kingdoms. These include the bacteria, fungi, algae, protozoa, annelids, mollusks, insects, vertebrates (including frogs and turtles), and higher plants. This multitude of life forms, in concert, have the capability to treat wastes, pathogens and toxins. The basic technological and scientific principles governing the design of natural treatment systems have been well articulated and subjected to scientific review.

Wildlife Habitat

Biomatrix systems provide excellent wildlife habitat and can be designed with additional wildlife features such as bird nesting areas. The Biomatrix system optimizes a mutually beneficial interface between humanity and nature with the end result being a cleaner and healthier water system for all.

Active Dual Filtration

The Biomatrix circulates water through two linked biofilters; one in the buoyant island and one integrated with the gravel substrate of the waterfront called the Active Edge TM.  The system harnesses high volume airlift flow, as well as the direct pumped draw from the submersible aerator to circulate large water volumes.  Water is circulated in the biofilters to achieve frequent exchanges in aerobic conditions suitable for biological nitrogen removal. Biomatrix bioremediation technology harnesses the entire waterway as an active treatment system with the waterfront and floating water features themselves continually filtering and rejuvenating the water.
