SUCCESS STORY: PACO CANAL, MANILA

The headwaters of the Paco Canal in Manila used to be a foul swamp of sewage and garbage. The people who lived along the canal avoided walking along the banks and instead chose to walk on the dangerous railroad tracks nearby. Now the Paco headwaters is a beautiful water park, full of flowers and trees. The locals enjoy walking along the new boardwalk by the canal and children come here to play and relax.

Galen Fulford, Michael Shaw, Lisa Shaw and Dr. Yee-Li Lee spent time working in Manila in January. A highlight of the trip was guiding a tour of San Miguel waterway by boat with a group of 50 people including politicians, the head of the military, architects and designers.
