Eden Dock: A Pioneering New Floating Ecological Park Comes to Life in London
March 20, 2025
In the heart of Canary Wharf, where glass and steel dominate the skyline, a new kind of space is emerging—one that brings water to life and nature back into the city. Eden Dock is an innovative Floating Park, a collaboration between Eden Project and Canary Wharf Group with the help of many talented contractors and designers.

There are 215 Biomatrix Floating Ecosystem modules, with 16 Ecosystems sections. These are integrated with boardwalks and benches, transforming the water’s edge into a thriving habitat for birds, fish, and pollinators while creating a peaceful green space for people.
Cities face the challenge of balancing growth with environmental protection. By 2050, 70% of the world’s population is expected to live in cities. At the same time, global wildlife populations have declined by 69% over the past five decades. If biodiversity loss is to be tackled, cities must be part of the solution.

Eden Dock is a model for how urban environments can work with nature rather than against it. The Floating Ecosystems enhance biodiversity, improve water quality, and reconnect people with nature—all while demonstrating how cities can integrate environmental restoration.

It also provides access to the beautiful waterside like never before. People can enjoy the floating gardens and boardwalks, watch birds and pollinators up close, and experience a living landscape that changes with the seasons. In a fast-paced city, it offers a place to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the natural world. 73% of office workers prefer to work in a location near water and green spaces.
“It is our belief that the varied surfaces, textures and environments found at Eden Dock with encourage a greater diversity of life.”
-Sir Tim Smit
Co-Founder of the Eden Project
As cities grow, we need innovative solutions to restore nature and create spaces that benefit both people and wildlife. Eden Dock is proof that even in the busiest places, nature can thrive.
